General Call for Submissions
The focus of “Motels of the Mother Road: A Creative Survey” will include all kinds of art and creative endeavors related to these fast-disappearing motels: history, architecture, kitsch factors, abandoned remnants, adventures, personal anecdotes, essays, fiction, collections/memorabilia, and more.

We are looking for individuals with a passion for Route 66 and its motels, artists who work in site specific and relational/performative modes, and those working in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video. We welcome any form of art or creative output that can be documented in book/exhibition/online formats.

To participate, please see the application formats below:

1. If you don’t think of yourself as an artist or writer but have a love or keen interest in Route 66, particularly the motels, we want you! Possibilities for participation include: your personal history related to Route 66 and the motels; your personal collections of photos, doodads, tchotckes, or other historical items; a desire to engage creatively through some of our project suggestions, a desire to work with us collaboratively on

Simply send us a short letter telling us about yourself and your interest in this project (info@tamuseums.org). Also, check back soon (April 2010) for a list of assignments, ideas, and mini-projects our team is generating.

2. Visual Artists:
